Burns & McDonnell has announced the completion of a $100m project to redevelop the historic Braniff Operations and Maintenance Base in Dallas, Texas in the US.

The 26-acre project, named Braniff Centre, features 200,000ft² of hangar space accompanied by retail, restaurant, offices, auto-dealer showroom, entertainment venues and hospitality facilities.

In 2015, Burns & McDonnell and its partner national construction firm GRAVITY Company were selected to provide design-build services for the Braniff Centre’s executive terminal and its components.

Additionally, Burns & McDonnell was tasked to restore the façade of the base’s central atrium.

Burns & McDonnell aviation projects director Chris Hotop said: “While updating the structure to support contemporary aviation services, it was also crucial to protect its architectural integrity and historical legacy.

“Our design-build team created and executed a design that honours the rich history of the building’s past while embracing the exciting possibilities of its future.”

The Braniff Centre is expected to create more than 1,200 aviation, office and retail jobs for the Dallas and Fort Worth communities, at full build-out.

TAC-The Arnold Companies and TAC Air chairman and CEO Greg Arnold said: “Burns & McDonnell focused on revitalizing this historic site to represent the original architecture and aviation theme while updating the structure to meet the rigorous requirements of today’s general aviation and retail customer.

“With this design and construction in place, TAC Air – DAL and the Braniff Centre are the ‘Leading Edge’ of Dallas Love Field.”

The Braniff Centre also comprises fixed base operation (FBO) of TAC Air featuring amenities such as controlled access to the private hangars and executive terminal, concierge services, local event/venue reservations, auto-to-aircraft valet, and secured personal access to all retail facilities.
