The Plenary Health consortium has recently gained financial closure on the $1.14bn (A$1.5bn) Footscray Hospital project, the largest single health infrastructure investment in the State of Victoria, Australia.

Leading global engineering and design firm Stantec, which is based in Canada, has the role of building services engineer for the consortium, and will be providing comprehensive engineering services for the Hospital project.

The Plenary Health consortium is made up of four entities: Plenary Group, Multiplex, Honeywell and Compass Group, and Sojitz Corporation.

Australian infrastructure investment firm Plenary Group is the sponsor, investor, and asset manager of the project, while Multiplex is the builder. Honeywell and Compass Group are the facility services providers, while Sojitz Corporation is an investor.

Footscray hospital, with Western Health as the public operator for all of its clinical services, is a public-private partnership.

Architecture and interiors will be headed by Cox Architecture and Billard Leece Partnership, while Stantec will arrange electrical, mechanical, communications, hydraulics, acoustics, fire protection, fire engineering, vertical transportation services and speciality lighting to the consortium.

Stantec project director Anthony Squire said: “The Footscray Hospital will bring together efficiency, sustainability, and technology in one iconic space. Our team of engineers is honored to be part of a project that will elevate the patient experience and care for the local community.”

Plenary chief investment officer Paul Crowe said: “It is a rare privilege to deliver such a significant project, one that will ultimately transform access to health services in Melbourne’s west. In bringing this project to life, the community has always been our focus. “We look forward to delivering a true community hospital for patients and families, for staff and the people of the western suburbs.”

Construction is scheduled to begin soon, with completion of the new hospital expected in 2025.

The Government of Victoria has contracted Plenary Health to finance, design, construct and maintain the Footscray for 25 years after construction has been completed.
