The Plenary Health consortium has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the new Footscray Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

Claimed to be the largest single health infrastructure investment in Victoria, the new Footscray Hospital will be delivered as a public-private partnership.

The Plenary Health consortium includes Plenary Group as a sponsor, investor, SPV as manager and Multiplex, a global construction company, as a builder, Honeywell and Compass Group as services providers.

It also includes Sojitz as an investor and an integrated design team which is led by Cox Architecture and Billard Leece Partnership.

The new hospital will have more than 500 beds and allow providing care for an additional 15,000 patients as well as an extra 20,000 people to be seen by the emergency department every year.

It will also deliver more outpatient, palliative care and mental health services, ensuring the community can access quality care.

The consortium will be responsible for the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the new hospital for 25 years in partnership with the Victorian government.

Plenary head of origination Paul Crowe said: “This is a rare opportunity to have a material impact on health care for the western suburbs’ community.

“It also represents the most significant investment in social infrastructure ever seen in the inner west and will be a major source of economic stimulus over the coming years. It is a privilege to be entrusted with this important project for Melbourne’s west.

“We and our consortium partners look forward to partnering with the Victorian Government and Western Health to deliver this much-needed and critical piece of health infrastructure.”

The consortium said that it is now in talks with the Victorian government to secure financing for the new hospital.

Upon awarding the contract, Construction work on the project is set to commence immediately with completion expected in 2025.
