Land and property regeneration firm Harworth Group has secured planning approval for a 1.1 million ft2 commercial development at Wingates, Bolton, the UK.
The new logistics and manufacturing facility is adjacent to Junction 6 of the M61 and is situated near the company’s existing 3 million ft2 Logistics North site, which employees 5,500 people.
This site is close to both Bolton and Wigan towns, and is directly accessible from nearby motorway networks.
The proposed Wingates development is part of the company’s 26.1 million ft2 pipeline of industrial and logistics developments, of which 9.9 million ft2 of space is currently approved.
Enabling works at the project site are expected to begin in early 2022 and the first phase of commercial development will commence later that year.
The commercial development is expected to create approximately 1,500 new jobs.

By GlobalDataBolton Council originally granted planning approval for the site in January last year. However, the application was then called-in by the UK Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government, which granted approval following an examination in public earlier this year.
Harworth Group North West regional director Steven Knowles said: “Our site at Wingates will deliver up to 1.1 million sq ft of high quality logistics and manufacturing space, which will benefit from a strategic location next to Junction 6 of the M61 and its proximity to both Bolton and Wigan.
“Our placemaking will create an attractive environment where businesses want to locate and employees want to work. We will now engage with local stakeholders to begin enabling works on-site in early 2022.”
