Not-for-profit company Pan-London Accommodation Collaborative Enterprise (PLACE) has sought bids from modular homes specialists to design and manufacture moveable houses.
The company is seeking family homes that can provide the feel and look of a permanent housing while being movable as and when required.

These temporary homes will be placed on vacant locations over the short to medium term.
Led by PLACE, the £75m work will deliver 200 new homes that are planned to arrive on site by 2021.
PLACE director Mark Baigent was quoted by Constructionenquirer as saying: “Our aim is to challenge and inspire the housing design and construction industry to create an innovative and high-quality product to meet London’s opportunities and needs head-on.
“We want to procure attractive and spacious factory-built homes that can be easily moved from site to site around London.

The company will own the units, which is expected to work out as a more feasible option for boroughs than directly leasing units from a supplier, reported Globalconstructionreview.com.
On winning this £75m contract, the chosen firm will have to deliver a mix of two and three-bedroom family homes.
PLACE was set up earlier this year by London Councils, representing all 32 London boroughs and the City of London.
The project has received a £11m grant from the Greater London Authority.
