Global real estate firm Hines has selected architecture studio Pickard Chilton for an urban development project at Plieninger Straße 140 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Dubbed ‘Die Fuge’ (The Seam), the project will involve mixed development of open office space and public space on 125,000m² of gross floor area.

The selection follows Pickard Chilton’s participation in an international competition. The firm has now been tasked to master plan and design the development.
Pickard Chilton principal William D Chilton said: “We are honoured to be considered to contribute this significant development to Stuttgart’s urban fabric.
“This project will allow us to create a next-generation urban development that will positively contribute to the neighbourhood while incorporating key environmental goals that are reflective of our client’s vision for sustainable and impactful architecture in the 21st century.”
The three-phase master plan includes the creation of an extensive public space at the centre. It will feature a hotel/boarding-house, as well as cafés, restaurants and amenity spaces.

By GlobalDataThe project’s curving form design will focus on the development of buildings to the east and west of the site. The buildings will have green roof terraces with integrated photovoltaic panels to meet the project’s environmental goals.
The ‘open office campus’ includes flexible and modular H-shaped office buildings with exterior courtyards for drop-offs and access to bicycle storage and amenities.
Principal Chilton added: “We are especially excited to create a new, inviting public space that will define this development.
“The project will be integral to creating much-needed civic space in the area, joining an already impressive list of public space alternatives in the city, including the Schlossgarten and Killesberg parks.”
The other partners in the project development are executive architect ARP Architektenpartnerschaft and Glück Landschaftsarchitektur.
