Swedish construction and civil engineering firm Peab has secured a contract worth $18.4m (SEK157m) from Lantmännen Byggnads for the construction of a new cold storage unit in Örebro, Sweden.

Under the contract, the company will be responsible for the construction of a fully automated low oxygen cold storage unit along with logistics space on the existing bakery in Örebro.

The unit will maintain -26℃ and needs to reduce oxygen level to a very low level to protect against fire.

The construction company will also construct a machine room, new logistics offices, a low warehouse section and a pallet area.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to commence in September this year, with completion anticipated in September 2022.

Peab region manager Nils Staffansson said: “We’re very pleased to again have been entrusted with helping Lantmännen to modernize and increase its production capacity as well as being able to contribute to a more sustainable logistics flow.”

Recently, the company secured a contract worth $21.38m (NOK183m) from Møllerveien 2, subsidiary of Fredensborg Bolig, to construct apartments in Ammerud in Oslo, Norway.

The scope of work under the contract involves construction of 59 apartments in two buildings as well as commercial space on the ground floor.

The basement level of the building will also include parking spaces.

Construction work on the project is planned to begin in October this year and expected to be concluded in the fall of 2023.

Peab region manager Trond Ormstad said: “We’re proud to continue our good collaboration with Fredensborg Bolig after having recently worked together on the project Waldemars Tårn at Alexander Kielland Square in Oslo.”
