Nordic community builder Peab has received a traditional contract to rebuild the docks in Vaxholm, Sweden.

The City of Vaxholm has commissioned Peab for this contract, which is valued at Skr116m.

Vaxholm’s existing docks were originally built in 1969 and have neared the end of their estimated lifespan. The project aims to strengthen and widen the foundations of these docks.

Peab division manager Michael Edberg said: “We look forward to this important project on historic land in Vaxholm.

“This is a project where we can really use our internal resources and expertise in marine technology, civil engineering and foundation work.”

Peab will be responsible for building a new dock line that extends from Österport, runs through Söderport, and connects to the guest port.

Construction is set to commence next month and is anticipated to be completed in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.

Vaxholm municipal board chair Tina Runhem said: “Now we’re really getting started and it feels great! We’re going to get our new docks that are truly the heart and pulse of Vaxholm.”

The company will register the project in Q4 2023.

Last week, Peab secured a contract for the construction of a new living facility designed for older residents in Norrköping, also in Sweden.
