Nordic community builder Peab has secured a turnkey contract to construct new railway sidings in Lärje, located north of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Awarded by the Swedish Transport Administration, the contract is worth Skr392m ($37.41m).

The latest railway sidings initiative is part of a broader effort to augment train capacity and accessibility in the region.

Lärje is located near the region’s central railway network, including Västlänken.

The opening of Västlänken is expected to alter train traffic, necessitating additional storage for trains when not in use.

Peab will be responsible for the construction of 5,000m of railway tracks, 18 switches, overhead lines, and signal systems.

Peab region manager Berth Larsson said: “We’re pleased and proud to be contributing to the development of the railway in the Gothenburg area.

“This is an exciting and challenging project that requires good collaboration between all the parties involved.”

Construction is scheduled to commence this month, with completion expected in mid-2027.

Peab will order register the project in the first quarter of this year.

In December last year, the Swedish Transport Administration commissioned Peab to rebuild the E22 Interchange, Lund Södra, and Road 108 in the country.

This contract will see Interchange Lund Södra undergo reconstruction with new roundabouts, offramps, and bridge replacements.

Earlier this week, the company secured a turnkey contract to construct a new swimming pool block for customer Partillebo in Partille Municipality, Sweden.

The contract, worth Skr1.3bn, involves the construction of a new swimming pool facility, residential apartments, commercial space, and more.
