Northampton Town Football Club (F.C) has entered into an agreement with UK-based GRS Group for the completion of East Stand works.

The project will see the completion of a new stand at a League One football ground, almost nine years after construction on it was put on hold.

The club stated that it had discussions with various contractors and that GRS provided a suitable response.

The club received a £10.2m loan to renovate Sixfields Stadium, with the majority of the funding going to a company named 1st Land, reported news agency the BBC.

Buckingham Group was hired to build the stand but stated it had to halt construction twice, once when 1st Land went into administration and then when contractor CDNL failed to make full payment.

Buckingham Group and CDNL both went bankrupt earlier this year.

Additionally, West Northamptonshire Council agreed to sell approximately 8.25ha of land adjacent to Sixfields Stadium to County Developments (Northampton).

Northampton Town F.C chair Kelvin Thomas said: “GRS are a large company with a dedicated contracting division which has extensive experience in specialist construction and major projects.

“They also have a number of local connections, with many GRS employees living in the county and they have sponsored Northampton Saints for many years.

“GRS also has strong links to football as a business partner of the LMA (League Managers Association) as well as being a sponsor of numerous junior teams up and down the country.

“We will now be working with GRS to finalise all aspects of the design for the stand and develop a construction timeline for them to get back on site and finish the job once we have completed all the necessary paperwork with West Northamptonshire Council.”
