The Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has opened its new green terminal.
The project has been designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, in association with Stantec, and was inspired by the Manitoba region’s large prairies and open skies.
The design features a floating silver roof and an atrium, which, along with skylights and windows, optimises natural light throughout the terminal.
The facility incorporates sustainable design measures, including advanced mechanical systems to cut the building’s energy consumption, and is 25% more efficient than Canada’s Model National Energy Code for Buildings.
Pelli Clarke Pelli also provided the airport’s redevelopment master plan and the design for a parking garage.
