Capstone Development Partners and the University of North Alabama (UNA), US, have opened the second of the two new residence halls on UNA’s campus in Florence, Alabama.

In July 2013, Capstone was selected as the university’s housing development partner for the $34m project following a public procurement process.

Goodwyn Mills & Cawood designed the new residence halls, Olive and Mattielou. BL Harbert International was responsible for their construction.

The UNA Department of Housing and Residence Life manages and operates the new facilities, which are located behind existing Hawthorne and Covington halls on the northern end of UNA’s campus.

Olive and Mattielou housing communities feature single and double-occupancy rooms, which occupy an area of about 192,000ft².

"The Capstone team developed and presented a master development plan to UNA, in order to … serve the next generation of UNA students."

The buildings offer ground level common areas to residents and feature meeting and study spaces, management and residence life offices, in addition to activity areas including pool tables, classic arcade games, study desks and TV lounges.

Private common areas and lounges are offered on the buildings’ upper floors.

UNA CDP principal and project executive Jeff Jones said: "The Capstone team developed and presented a master development plan to UNA, in order to transform the residential north precinct of the campus into a dynamic village to serve the next generation of UNA students.

"Through our collaborative partnership we have delivered the first phase of this transformation, in the form of two handsome residence halls that have created a new excitement and energy on the campus."
