At present, Two Canal Street Investors is a finalist in the request for proposal (RFP) process for the redevelopment.

If Two Canal Street Investors is selected by New Orleans Building, the parties will jointly construct the $40m, 33-storey tower in the Southern Gulf Region.

Redeveloment plans for Two Canal Street Investors for redeveloping the Edward Durell Stone signature skyline structure include construction of the Tricentennial Tower.

According to US Thrill Rides, the proposed 320ft-high structure would be named New Orleans Tricentennial Tower and would feature a tower-twisting double-helix gondola viewing experience, as well as a sky-high restaurant and observation deck.

The tower would be ADA-compliant and constructed to withstand Category 5 hurricane wind velocity. It has been designed by local architects Perez, APC of New Orleans, Angela O’Byrne and Pio Lyons.

"A New Orleans’s Tricentennial Tower on the Riverfront would quickly become one of the city’s most popular visitor attractions."

New Orleans Tricentennial Tower would create an iconic experience for visitors in a similar way to Seattle’s Space Needle or England’s London Eye.

US Thrill Rides president Michael Kitchen said: "The Seattle Space Needle hosts well over 1 million visitors per year.

"US Thrill Rides, Two Canal Street Investors and our additional investor partners believe that a New Orleans’s Tricentennial Tower on the Riverfront would quickly become one of the city’s most popular visitor attractions."

According to Kitchen, the new tower could help New Orleans city reach its goal of drawing 15 million tourists a year.

The group is also planning a New Orleans 360 Interactive Experience, in association with the Louisiana Maritime Museum, which will be located on a 300ft-high observation deck.

The tower is scheduled to open in 2018.
