Steven Holl Architects has won an international design competition for the new Geneva Operational Centre in Switzerland, in partnership with Rüssli Architekten.
The centre is designed to offer work and social spaces for more than 250 Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff members.
Titled Colours of Humanity, Steven Holl’s design features coloured photovoltaic (PV) glass on a wall facade and the roof. The panels are intended to supply around 72% of the building’s power demand.
The cubic geometrical design also ensures flexibility for expansion in the future.
MSF Operational Centre Geneva logistics director Mathieu Soupart said: “Steven Holl Architects’ project is the opportunity for MSF to integrate its core values like independence, impartiality, neutrality, altruism, and dynamism in a challenging new architecture and project itself in the future.”
The centre will host workstations, meeting rooms, classrooms, and social spaces, which will support activities of more than 6,500 field staff that cover missions in 23 countries.
