Schindler 5500 MRL elevator

Schindler Elevator has unveiled its Schindler 5500 machine room-less (MRL) traction elevator for mid-rise buildings in select North American markets.

The new elevator is said to offer advanced features normally only used in high-rise buildings, along with added space and energy savings.

PORT Technology destination-dispatching system offered by Schindler is available to enhance movement through buildings and can combine personalised access with faster travel times by grouping passengers with similar destinations.

Schindler Elevator president Greg Ergenbright said: "The Schindler 5500 was meticulously engineered to bring best-in-class ride quality and performance features from the custom high-rise market in an MRL package for mid-rise buildings.

"This gives architects and building owners in the mid-rise space the same unmatched design flexibility, performance and energy efficiency solutions our high-rise customers have come to expect."

The company’s elevators have additional options, including a full glass cabin with glass doors and wall panels, integrated LED lighting and a lightweight, durable and flexible suspension traction media (STM).

Schindler’s STM system saves space and energy by using a smaller motor and sheave.

Sustainable features of the Schindler 5500 include power Factor 1 regenerative drives that use 30% less energy, new drive and traction configuration and 30% to 40% greater efficiency.
