A consortium of New Zealand’s building sector is set to target construction talent in the UK through a new campaign, LookSee Build NZ, in a bid to fill several jobs in the infrastructure and housing build segment.
Including various government organisations, local body entities and private companies, the consortium has launched the campaign, seeking more than 56,000 staff, including 2,200 senior positions.

The talent is expected to be needed for New Zealand’s more than NZ$125bn ($88.9bn) programme involving infrastructure works over the coming ten years.
Additionally, the construction of 100,000 new homes is being planned to take place in the country during the next three years.
Downer NZ network maintenance and civil construction general manager Craig West said: “Our construction sector is very competitive and this kind of inter-industry cooperation has never happened before but the need for staff requires us to take an all-of-industry approach.
“We’ve united to solve a big problem for all of us and we’ve come to the UK because that is where some of the best global construction talent is.”

By GlobalDataAccording to Auckland Transport chief infrastructure officer Greg Edmonds, an employment environment was created by the downturn that has occurred recently in the UK’s construction activity.
Edmonds added: “We’ve conducted qualitative research into the UK construction industry and this shows the vast majority of respondents are interested in job opportunities in New Zealand.
“More than 82% were prepared to pay their own travel and more than half were prepared to migrate within three months.”
In order to persuade the UK staff to travel for the employment initiative, Look See Build NZ is offering various experiences such as fishing, surfing and canoeing, cultural events and site-seeing.
