Foster + Partners has secured approval from Westminster Council for the £1bn redevelopment plan of Grade II-listed Whiteleys shopping centre in Bayswater, west London.
Constructed behind the historic Queensway, the shopping centre will be demolished and replaced with a ten-storey structure with more than 100 homes.

The plan is being backed a joint venture between Meyer Bergman-advised fund and Warrior Group, reported Architects Journal.
The plan includes new stores, a gym, a cinema and parking spaces at the basement, as well as a boutique hotel.
According to the plan, the building’s iconic central dome will be retained while the flats will come up around an inner courtyard.
The dome was designed by architects John Belcher and John James Joass in 1911.

The original building had a theatre and a golf-course on rooftop. It was closed in 1980 and was opened as a shopping centre in 1989.
Last year, Foster + Partners won the redevelopment project, beating Zaha Hadid Architects and Stiff + Trevillion.
