Six architect teams have been shortlisted by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to provide designs for a £100m building complex that would come up next to Lincoln’s Inn Fields in London.
The teams shortlisted include AL_A; David Chipperfield Architects; Diller Scofidio + Renfro with Penoyre & Prasad; Grafton Architects; Herzog & de Meuron Architects; and Niall McLaughlin Architects + Scott Brownrigg.

The project involves demolition and redevelopment of 44 Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
It will be home to the Marshall Institute for Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship, which will feature sports, teaching and arts facilities.
LSE director of estates Julian Robinson said: "The amount of analysis and intellectual effort that has gone into the designs from each team is staggering and the results are impressive and very exciting.
"Given its size and prime location on Lincoln’s Inn Fields we want this to be a seminal university building; its legacy will endure for many generations so it is vital that we make the right decision."
In April 2016, the six architectural teams will present their respective designs to a panel of jury, with the LSE director and president Professor Craig Calhoun as its chairperson.
The announcement on the winning team will be made early this year.
Paul Marshall, a key benefactor of LSE, has recently contributed £30m for the development of the Marshall Institute for Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship as well as for the redevelopment of 44 Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
LSE had acquired the 44 Lincoln’s Inn Fields from Cancer Research UK in 2013.
The new building will also accommodate Marshall Institute’s academic departments of finance, accounting and management.
