London Aquatics Centre

The London Aquatics Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will open on 1 March this year.

Designed by architectural firm Zaha Hadid, the centre will feature two 50m swimming pools and a 25m diving pool with boards and platforms up to 10m.

The centre will also house a 50m training pool, a dry diving zone, a 50-station gym and café.

Charitable social enterprise, GLL, will operate the venue, which will host several activities and national and international events, including the FINA/NVC 2014 World Diving Series in April, the 2016 European Swimming Championships and will be the new home of British Diving.

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) said that since the end of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, transformation work has been on-going at the aquatics centre.

"Visitors will have access to parklands and waterways, arts and events and views from the ArcelorMittal Orbit."

As per the plans, the temporary seating stands that held 17,500 seats, were removed and 2,800m² of glass and eight doors were installed.

The London Aquatics Centre is at the entrance of the south of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park where, from 5 April visitors will have access to parklands and waterways, arts and events and views from the ArcelorMittal Orbit.

Work is underway to transform the stadium into a multi-use venue, which will be the permanent home of West Ham United Football Club from 2016, and the new national competition stadium for athletics in the UK.

The London Aquatics Centre uses 32% less potable drinking water compared to other pools.

London Mayor Boris Johnson said: "After a post-Olympic makeover, London’s majestic aquatics centre is now flinging open its doors for everyone to enjoy, whether an elite athlete or enthusiastic amateur."

Sport England has invested £34m on the project from National Lottery funding, including £5m for the transformation of the venue.
