KONE will supply 19 elevators to Fifth + Columbia office building to be constructed in Seattle, as part of a contract awarded by the project’s general contractor JTM Construction.

The 44-storey building, which will be built in the heart of the Seattle central business district at 801 Fifth Avenue, is scheduled to open in 2017.

Daniels Real Estate & Stockbridge Capital Group is the developer and owner of the project.

Under the terms of the contract, KONE will provide six KONE MonoSpace machine room-less elevators and 13 KONE MiniSpace elevators, travelling at speeds of up to 6m a second.

KONE Polaris Destination Control Systems, including touchscreen destination operating panels, will also be used by the office elevator groups.

A 184-room, four-star hotel and spa will be located in the new tower, besides more than 500,000ft² of office space.

"KONE’s machine-room-less solutions eliminate overhead machine rooms and provide extra leasable space to the project owners."

Architects of Seattle Zimmer Gunsul Frasca designed the new building’s geometric form and natural light glass façade, while Philippe Starck will design the hotel and restaurant spaces.

According to KONE, the machine rooms were typically required with conventional traction elevator models.

KONE Americas executive vice-president Larry Wash said: "We are excited to be a partner on the most significant office and hotel project in the Seattle skyline.

"Our local project management team will provide the most productive installation and highest degree of customer service for the Fifth + Columbia property. We look forward to a successful and safe installation."
