UK construction giant ISG has won a £5m contract for the first phase expansion of the Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay, in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides.

Construction of the proposed Coultorsay maturation warehouse complex is aimed to increase the capacity of the distillery, which was set up in 1881.

The entire expansion project aims to develop six bonded warehouses at the site, along with a filling store, disgorging unit and external cask storage.

Under the initial developmental phase, ISG will be responsible for constructing the first of the warehouses, which will be a single storey, steel frame structure with an area of 21,000ft².

"Bruichladdich Distillery is an important addition to our growing portfolio of customers operating within the luxury drinks sector."

The firm will also be developing new road infrastructure and start mains services across the site.

The remaining five warehouses will also be covering areas varying in size from 21,000ft² to 32,000ft², for which the developer will be initiating preparatory ground works.

ISG Scotland regional managing director Andy McLinden said: "Bruichladdich Distillery is an important addition to our growing portfolio of customers operating within the luxury drinks sector.

"We continue to secure repeat opportunities with the world’s leading premium drinks businesses, delivering projects valued in excess of £50 million in recent years.

"Our sector-specific expertise is unrivalled in Scotland and it is this in-depth knowledge, consistent high-quality delivery credentials and collaborative approach that resonates with customers in this highly specialist and globally renowned industry."

The firm has won two more UK projects in the previous month only, totalling approximately £18m.

While a £10m fit-out contract was awarded to ISG by Brit Insurance for designing its UK headquarters at the Leadenhall Building in London, the second one was for £7.9m and requires the firm to revamp an old building at 400 South Oak Way in Reading.
