A detailed planning application has been submitted by British Land to Sheffield City Council for the £300m expansion of Meadowhall Leisure Hall.
Occupying an area of 30,000m2, the new hall will feature a glazed roof and will house restaurants, a cinema, a café court, and gym, as well as an open-air terrace to allow visitors to dine outside and a new multi-storey car park.

The new extension will be connected to the existing centre to create a new multi-level, landscaped open space, which will improve accessibility. Solar panels on the roof of the cinema are expected to cater to 10% of the scheme’s energy consumption.
Designer BDP's architect director Jeremy Sweet said: “The Leisure Hall extension will create a new identity for Meadowhall and provide a sequence of dynamic dining and entertainment spaces under a landmark glazed roof, significantly improving the customer’s experience of visiting the centre.
“The project will follow on from our extensive interior refurbishment of the centre itself, which is due to complete in 2017, creating a new holistic vision for Meadowhall.”
Work on the site is expected to start in 2018 and the centre is scheduled to open to the public by the end of 2020.
