Studio Daniel Libeskind has announced plans to build an angular apartment block in Berlin, Germany.
The eight-storey, 107,000ft² Chausseestrasse 43 will be built in the Chausseestrasse district of the city and is scheduled for completion in 2015.
Occupying the corner of a block in central Berlin, the building will have large angular windows that have been designed to catch maximum light, while it will have canted walls and a metallic-coated ceramic façade.
Daniel Libeskind was briefed to create 73 one to four-bedroom apartments on a more or less rectangular plot a little less than half an acre (16,000ft²).
The apartment will have retail areas on the ground floor, underground parking, as well as a common outdoor area.
As part of the design, the dramatic coda is found at the top, where a penthouse apartment will be built on the brow of the building.

By GlobalDataOn one side, a double-height living room is lined by a sloping wall of obliquely shaped windows, which leads out to a patio that overlooks the city.
A floating stairway will ascend to an open-plan living area, while bedrooms will be tucked into the rear, with the ceiling sweeping up to a height of 21ft.
The façade cladding is a three-dimensional stoneware tile that Libeskind designed with the Casalgrande Padana in Italy.
The self-cleaning geometric ceramic panels create an expressive metallic pattern and also possess sustainable properties, such as air purification.
In partnership with property developer Econcept, Minerva, the Berlin-based real estate developer is handling the technical and economic implementation of Chausseestrasse 43.
The company specialises in real estate development for commercial and residential projects and Econcept is engaged in the construction of new residential buildings.
