Broadway Malyan has won an international competition to design the Chengdu Creative Centre in Chengdu, Western China.

Broadway Malyan collaborated with Shanghai-based designers East China Architectural Design & Research Institute and environmental engineers Cundall to win the competition, commissioned by the Chengdu Tiantou Real Estate Development Company.

"Our expert design team will now…demonstrate that well-designed urban development in China can create sustainable and environmentally conscious places."

Chengdu Creative Centre is part of the first phase of new urban district construction project being developed in Chengdu.

The new, high-tech business park and mixed-use centre will form the gateway to the new district, dubbed Tianfu New Town.

Design of the centre draws inspiration from local surroundings and will feature an integrated web of office, retail and green public areas focused around a 110m central tower.

The new construction will be a benchmark for sustainable development, reducing existing energy consumption by half.

Broadway Malyan director Jeremy Salmon said: "Our expert design team will now work in close partnership with the wider project team to realise the client’s vision and demonstrate that well-designed urban development in China can create sustainable and environmentally conscious places."
