Developer Bouygues UK has broken ground for a £90m mixed-use scheme at Addlestone town in Surrey.
Construction works for the Addlestone One scheme at Station road has been initiated, which is expected to regenerate the six-acre town centre.
A cinema, hotel, restaurants, shops and 213 new homes will be built as part of the scheme surrounding the existing Runnymede Civic Centre.
The development will also comprise a multi-storey car park and new public spaces.
Expected to be completed by October 2017, it will be retained by Runnymede Borough Council.
Bouygues UK regional managing director for the south Darren Gill said: "The ground has now been cleared and we can get the construction work underway on this exciting new development that is going to give a new lease of life to the town centre here in Addlestone."

Runnymede Borough Council chief executive, Paul Turrell, said: "The calibre of the tenants announced so far highlights the quality of the scheme and we look forward to its completion in just over two years’ time, which we believe will transform the town."
The scheme has already invited occupiers to locate within the centre, the confirmed names being Waitrose, a 101-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and a six-screen cinema operated by UK’s premium cinema brand, The Light Cinemas.
