BFC Partners has announced the ground-breaking ceremony of a new retail complex project in New York, which is expected to attract $285m of private investments in the North Shore of Staten Island.
Designed by SHoP Architects, the new 340,000ft² Empire Outlets comprises 100 designer outlet retailers, along with a dining destination with various restaurants and cafes.
New York State Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul said: "The Empire Outlets project provides an enormous breakthrough in the transformation and revitalisation of Staten Island.
"Finally, the North Shore will have new and affordable shopping opportunities in its own backyard, walkable communities for residents and tourists to roam along the beautiful waters, and state-of-the-art hospitality with the development of a new hotel at Lighthouse Point."
The project, which received $130m capital from Goldman Sachs through its Urban Investment Group, will house various national brands such as Nordstrom Rack, H&M, Gap Outlet, Banana Republic Factory Store, White House Black Market and Guess Factory Store.
Empire Outlets will also have a 190-room hotel and a 1,250-space structured parking garage below the retail and hotel components.
