Barwa project

Qatar-based developer Barwa Real Estate has launched its new $137m commercial project to be built at A-Ring Road-Rawdat Al Khail in Doha.

The Alaateda project aims to meet the shortage of commercial buildings in the country and has been designed in a flexible way to allow for expansion based on future needs.

The project will include five connected buildings, G+1, with each floor featuring a mezzanine in addition to a 1,500-vehicle parking facility.

With every commercial unit ranging between 70m2 to 80m2, each will be integrated with a multi-use mezzanine covering about 60% of the overall space, to serve the merchant requirements.

“The commercial activities will vary…and range from sale of electronics, cars accessories, handcrafts, jewellery, furniture, textiles and fashion.”

Barwa Group CEO Eng. Ahmad Abdulla Al Abdulla said: “Alaateda is a name which might not relate to the project for the first instance.

“The project name, however, is closely related to its location, which importance might be recognised by older Qataris who used to know the area and the kind of commercial activity which used to run there.

“The land plot, on which the project will be constructed, used to gather all the central workshops of mechanical machinery, which ownership belonged to the government at that time.”

Upon scheduled completion of the project in early 2017, the commercial activities will vary from one building to another and range from sale of electronics, cars accessories, handcrafts, jewellery, furniture, textiles and fashion.

However, the last building will be dedicated only for entertainment, video games, restaurants and a hypermarket.

With Promontorio already being appointed as an engineering consultant for the project, Barwa is expecting to have a contractor aboard during the second quarter of 2015.
