A joint venture led by BAM Deutschland and Amber has started work on a new Federal Ministry of Education & Research building in Berlin, Germany.
The joint venture previously secured a €175m contract from the German Institute for Federal Real Estate to design, construct, finance and maintain the building for 30 years.
Berlin architecture firm Heinle, Wischer und Partner has designed the building.
The new building will have a floor area of more than 54,000m2 and will be able to accommodate 1,000 employees.
It will feature a special heating and cooling exchange system, and LED lighting will be used throughout the complex.
The building work is being carried out by BAM Deutschland and the project is expected to complete in August 2014.
The facility will be built to Gold Standard certifications for German government buildings.
