The UK's Chiltern District Council has awarded a contract to Balfour Beatty for the extension of Amersham town centre’s multi-storey car park.

Under the £10m contract, which was procured through the Scape National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework, the company will employ 50 people to build the new five-storey facility.

Equipped with a lift service, electric car charge points and extensive CCTV, the expansive facility will provide an additional 502 parking spaces for Amersham’s existing 680 space car park.

During the construction phase, the existing car park will remain operational and can be accessed through a new temporary entrance.

Scape Procure Managing Director Victoria Brambini said: “This project will deliver much needed new infrastructure to Amersham’s town centre.

“Working in collaboration with Balfour Beatty through our framework, Chiltern District Council have achieved the most cost-effective design, the lowest risk, as well as savings associated with engaging with Balfour Beatty from the earliest stage.

During the design phase, the company used Building Information Modelling (BIM) to visualise and demonstrate the operational running of the completed park.

In May 2016, Balfour Beatty was appointed as the sole contractor to the £1.5bn Scape National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework.

Construction will begin at the start of this year's fourth quarter and will be completed by end of next year.
