Work on skyscraper The Tower has begun at Dubai Creek Harbour.

The Tower is being being designed by architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava and is expected to transform the area into a leading residential and leisure destination.

Calatrava has selected Aurecon as the engineer and architect-of-record to collaborate on a range of design and technical features. Dubai-based Emaar Properties has commissioned the project.

Aurecon's project director for The Tower Adrian Jones said: "The Calatrava team were looking to work directly with our experts who have had hands-on project experience on other supertall and similar mega projects. Not only were they assured of such a working arrangement, they were further impressed by our open, flexible, and collaborative approach."

"It is an absolute privilege to be entrusted by Santiago Calatrava and Emaar Properties to work on this project, and we have assembled a high-quality team to bring this idea to life."

"The building will house ten observation decks, which will offer complete views of the city."

The building's design includes a net of steel cable stays attached to a central reinforced concrete column. An oval-shaped bud will be featured at the top of the tower and the building will house ten observation decks including The Pinnacle Room, which will offer complete views of the city.
