Italian football club AC Milan and architectural firm Arup have unveiled initial plans for a new 48,000-seat stadium based on the design of Arsenal’s Emirates home.
The project will cost up to £240m and will be developed by Arup’s architecture, urban planning and engineering team in Milan.

Companies have presented expressions of interest for the redevelopment of a central area in Milan to host the new AC Milan stadium.
The venue will stage home matches for the club, as well as offering a sports college, a hotel restaurants, a children’s playground, green areas and open public spaces.
Expected to provide a new experience to the spectators, the AC Milan stadium will have a family focus, with innovative technologies and facilities, and will include a moveable roof to mitigate noise in the surroundings as part of the sustainability improvements.
The project’s design is claimed to be carefully balanced around the spectator’s experience, Arup said.
Some of the design components include sight-lines analysed and designed for each seat and developed by Arup’s parametric tool that guarantees a good view from every location in the stadium.
High-tech solutions will improve the spectators’ experience before, during and after matches.
The venue will also have special VIP facilities with lounges and spaces providing a direct view of the mixed-zone and the route from the athletes’ changing rooms to the pitch.
AC Milan expects to open the new stadium ground between 2018 and 2019.
