Danish utility company HOFOR has chosen Nordic construction business NCC as the main contractor for the development of the Regnemark water treatment facility in Zealand, Denmark.
The Skr600m ($55.3m) contract includes both construction and civil engineering works.
This water treatment plant is located between Ringsted and Køge on the island of Zealand and is claimed to be the largest of its kind in the country.
The newly modernised facility will replace the existing plant, which was originally built in 1964, and is set to annually provide more than 14 billion litres of drinking water to the Copenhagen area.
It will comprise a central softening facility, as well as associated new operating and maintenance buildings.
Work on the project will commence early next year, with completion expected in 2026.

By GlobalDataNCC will add the order to this year’s second quarter in its Infrastructure business segment.
The latest project forms part of HOFOR’s broader plan to modernise seven regional water works to provide softened drinking water to the Copenhagen metropolitan area.
HOFOR and NCC have collaborated before to build water treatment facilities at Søndersø and Gevninge.
NCC Infrastructure head Kenneth Nilsson said: “Large, complex water treatment plant projects such as Regnemark comprise a priority segment for NCC, and this project provides us with the opportunity to best utilise our core expertise.
“A large project like this one requires a close partnership with HOFOR, and we, therefore, see it as a great strength that we have had good cooperation in previous projects.
“This gives us the best conditions for a good process and a successful project.”
