Enköping Municipality in Sweden has awarded a contract to NCC to construct a new wastewater treatment plant in the city of Enköping.

The municipality expects its population to reach approximately 60,000 residents by 2040, and the new treatment facility will help sustainability accommodate this growth.

The contract’s value is estimated at Skr325m, with works expected to finish in 2027.

Enköping Municipality Water and Wastewater acting head Danielle Littlewood said: “This is positive for Enköping Municipality, and we are pleased to have reached an agreement with NCC that means we will soon be able to start construction of the new wastewater treatment plant.”

NCC has been tasked to oversee the project’s construction phase. The new complex has four buildings and three outdoor biobasins.

This new plant will substitute the site’s existing abandoned plant. The treatment facility needs to be able to manage the municipality’s projected population expansion, as well as current and future treatment needs.
