NCC, a construction company in the Nordics, is set to renovate and redevelop the KY Building in the Finnish capital of Helsinki into a sustainable and multifunctional office block.

The announcement comes around four months after NCC Property Development acquired the 7,500m² property from KY Foundation.

A former students’ union building of Helsinki School of Economics, the KY Building will be renamed as Kulma21 (Corner21) after refurbishment works are complete.

The redeveloped property will feature offices on the top six floors. It will also include a roof terrace, basement with space for hosting events and a prominent entrance on the ground floor.

NCC Property Development head Joachim Holmberg said: “We are remodelling this corner property and creating a space for a future mobile working culture with flexible and modern office premises close to services.

“The central location offers excellent traffic connections and top visibility, making the building a perfect choice as a company headquarters.”

Construction works will be carried out by NCC Property Development, with renovation scheduled to commence from this month. The project is expected to complete in 2023.

Holmberg added: “NCC has extensive experience of renovating and remodelling buildings of historical value and we know how to give them a new shine and modify them for the future while at the same time respecting and preserving their history. The KY Building will remain a landmark for the future.”

Last year, NCC won a design-build contract to construct an office building next to Arenastaden in Solna, Sweden.
