The Army West Point Athletics Association (AWPAA) and West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) are moving forward with the construction of the Michie Stadium preservation project in the US.

The associations have secured initial private funding for the project’s construction.

Construction is expected to commence in early 2024 with completion anticipated in mid-2026.

The project aims to reconstruct and modernise the East Stands of the stadium, which is located in West Point, New York.

EwingCole, a company specialising in architecture, engineering, interior design, and planning, is at the helm of the design process.

EwingCole project manager Kevin Murphy said: “We are thrilled that the AWPAA and the WPAOG are able to move forward with this project.

“This project has been a long time coming, so to finally have a path forward is exciting for the athletics programme, the cadets, and the design team.”

The company has designed, programmed, and planned a dynamic, modern, and eco-friendly East Stands complex that aligns with the project’s physical requirements and West Point’s values.

EwingCole will employ contemporary design strategies that focus on collegiate athletics spaces, fan experiences, technology integration, and sustainability.

In addition, the surrounding landscape will be redesigned to improve accessibility and make the most of the views of Lusk Reservoir, Fort Putnam, the Cadet Chapel, and the Hudson Valley.

During the construction period, Army West Point will continue to host fans at the stadium for events such as graduation, lacrosse, football, and other special occasions.
