Miami Freedom Park (MFP) in the US has submitted a special area plan (SAP) application for the rezoning required for the Melreese site.

This development marks a key milestone in bringing the proposed mixed-use MFP project to fruition.

Of the total 131 acres of the project, the rezoning of 20.9 acres is needed to follow through on the vision for MFP, which was supported by 60% of Miami voters.

As part of the project, the developers plan to build a 58-acre public park, along with a 25,000-seat soccer stadium that will be home to South Florida’s own Major League Soccer team Inter Miami CF.

The project will also include a tech hub and hotel, as well as shops and restaurants for the entire community.

Inter Miami CF managing owner Jorge Mas said: “With the goal of following through on the will of Miami voters, we are submitting the Miami Freedom Park zoning application so it can be reviewed as we continue to advance lease agreement negotiations.

The SAP application highlights include improved walkability with a one-mile wellness loop, a bike path and signalised crosswalks for better connectivity.
