BMD Constructions has been selected to deliver the initial phase of works at the site of Brisbane’s planned 63,000-seat Olympic stadium in Victoria Park.
The contract was awarded by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) following a two-stage open market procurement.

The selection process began with an Invitation for Prequalification, which drew 22 responses, and moved forward with an Invitation to Offer conducted under GIICA’s approved procurement and evaluation framework.
BMD, a Queensland-founded company established in 1979, is scheduled to commence early site works next month as part of preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The scope includes earthworks, drainage, erosion controls, developing access roads, installing fencing and setting up a logistics area.
According to BMD, these works will ready the precinct for subsequent construction phases, which will be delivered under a design and construct contract in partnership with design firm GHD.
BMD CEO Scott Power said: “Early works play a critical role in setting major projects up for success.
“Our focus is on working closely with GIICA, the broader project team and the community, drawing on our local workforce, supply chain and civil construction experience to deliver the works with care and a commitment to positive long-term outcomes.”
GIICA has been undertaking site investigations and survey assessments, as well as repurposing some existing buildings into site facilities and offices, since it took possession of Victoria Park on 1 June.
The stadium early works are due for completion by the middle of 2027. A timeline for completion has not been provided.
Once opened, Brisbane’s Olympic stadium is expected to become the primary venue for major sporting teams including the Brisbane Lions in AFL matches and the Brisbane Heat and Queensland Bulls for cricket, in addition to hosting international games.

Brisbane’s Olympic stadium is included in the A$7.1bn ($4.9bn) Games Venues Infrastructure Programme, financed jointly by the Queensland and Australian governments.
