The Power Transmission & Distribution Business of Indian construction firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order to construct power transmission lines and substations related to an infrastructure project in Telangana, India.

Under the contract, L&T’s business unit will be responsible for the construction of three new 400kV substations with reactors, related bay extensions at connected substations and over 170km of 400kV transmission lines, on a turnkey basis.

The company has also won a contract from Konkan Railway Corporation Limited to provide electrical and mechanical systems for two tunnels in the Katra Dharam section of the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla railway project.

The work under the contract will include the provision of 33kV & 11kV HT power cable network, GIS substation, DG sets, tunnel lighting, ventilation and fire-fighting systems, and SCADA system.

Also, the construction firm received a power distribution package to replace bare conductors with aerial bunched cables in North India.

The company said that additional orders have been received from ongoing transmission line projects.

Additionally, the business has secured a contract to build 400kV overhead lines connecting three grid stations in Oman.

L&T said that the high-capacity transmission lines will interconnect three major transmission systems to upgrade dispatch coordination and grid security.

Furthermore, the transmission line will improve access to areas with renewable energy potential and enable reserves sharing.

The business unit also received an order from a major client in the Middle East.

L&T classified the contracts as ‘large’ orders, which valued between INR 25bn ($340m) and INR50bn ($680m).

In August this year, L&T’s business has won a contract from Power Grid Corporation of India to build certain transmission links connected with the strengthening of the 400kV system in the Eastern Region. It also secured an order for a 400kV transmission line package in South India.

The business has also won an order to design, supply, install, test and commission a 220kV transmission line in Tanzania.
