Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business has secured an order from Greenko group, a renewable energy company, for development of an off stream pumped storage project in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
The civil and hydromechanical works of the project will be undertaken via a consortium led by Larsen & Toubro.
This work will be carried out in a timeline of 30 months.
The contract is termed as significant, which the company terms as those valued between $120.72m – $301.80m (Rs10bn-Rs25bn).
Following completion, the project is expected to become one of the largest clean energy projects of its kind in the country.
Designed to meet a pumped storage capacity of 10,080 MWHr, the Gandhisagar Pumped Storage Project (PSP) envisages creation of an upper reservoir near Khemla block village, while the current Gandhisagar reservoir will be the lower reservoir.
The project entails building an upper dam to form the upper reservoir, intake structure with approach channel, steel lined buried penstock/pressure shaft (vertical & horizontal), surface powerhouse, draft tube tunnel, tailrace outlet structure, tailrace channel, etc.
Recently, Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution business has won several significant engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) orders in the present quarter to develop transmission lines and substations in Saudi Arabia.
L&T will be responsible for the engineering, design, procurement and construction of over 400km of 380kV Overhead Transmission Lines and a new 230kV Gas Insulated Substation with related automation and protection systems.
