L&T’s Water & Effluent Treatment business secures design and build contract

The Water & Effluent Treatment business of L&T Construction has bagged a design and build contract from the Public Health Engineering Department of the Indian state of Rajasthan to complete a Parallel Carrier System for the Rajiv Gandhi Lined Canal (RGLC Phase III).

It will execute this contract on a single point responsibility basis.

L&T Construction considers this contract as ‘significant’, which it terms as a contract valued from $130m to $320m (INR10bn to INR25bn).

The work involves 213km of raw water mild steel transmission mains, four pump houses along with related electrical, mechanical & instrumentation works.

The project will cater to the water demands of the districts of Jodhpur, Pali and Barmer in Rajasthan and also provide raw water to the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation Ltd (RIICO).

Larsen & Toubro is an Indian multinational company that is engaged in EPC projects, hi-tech manufacturing and services.

Earlier this month, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) of India awarded a contract to L&T Construction to build 116km route of high-speed ballastless trackworks for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project.

The contract was secured by the railways business of L&T.

The MAHSR project is also called as the Bullet Train Project.

L&T considers this project as ‘large’, which it categorises as a contract valued between $330m and $650m (INR25bn and INR50bn).

The high-speed ballastless track system is part of the Bullet Train Project.

For the MAHSR T3 Package, L&T is responsible for design, supply, construction and testing and commissioning of track works on a design-build lump sum price basis for the double line high-speed railway running between Vadodara and Sabarmati in Gujarat, a state in India.
