Kier Group has been chosen by the Department for Education (DfE) to build a net-zero carbon in operation school for Deyes High School in Maghull, Sefton, UK.

This project was procured by the company through DfE’s 2017 Construction Framework.

The design of the 10,000m² two/three-storey school building will feature more than 60 classrooms and other facilities such as a main hall, sports hall, dining and kitchen regions, as well as a part-covered multi-use games area (MUGA).

The sustainable design elements to be incorporated in the new school building include a full Bio solar green roof, solar panels, thermal insulation and passive ventilation solutions.

Due to the installation of air source heat pumps, the building will not depend on fossil fuels for heating or hot water.

Students of the new teaching building will stand to benefit from a wildlife garden, a nature trail and a habitat zone that can help them learn and connect with nature.
