UK-based construction services provider Kier Group has completed construction and handed over the third phase of Park Hill Flats in Sheffield, UK to Alumno Group.

The third phase, which covers an area of 400 acres of land overlooking central Sheffield, is Europe’s third-largest listed building.

The Park Hill Flats initially were built between 1957 and 1961 and most of them have been abandoned by the 1990s.

Kier was appointed to deliver the third phase of Park Hill Flats that includes the transformation of the block into modern student accommodation.

It has 74 townhouse style units featuring 356 new student bedrooms. It also includes a new commercial space for the residents and the local community.

The flats have been redeveloped keeping the original design and Historic England guidelines for the Grade II-listed building in mind.

For the renovation, a wide range of concrete repairs were required along with window replacements. New partition walling and contemporary facilities were added to the building.

Kier Regional Building Northern regional director Dan Doherty said: “We are delighted to have handed over the completed Phase 3 of the Park Hill Flats project to Alumno Group.

“The scheme has not only improved an area of Sheffield for students and residents for years to come but has also enabled us to invest and provide a legacy to the community in which we work.”

Earlier this year, Kier was appointed by York St John University to deliver its Creative Centre in York. The £13m project will be a new home for digital arts, creative studies and performing arts.
