Washington, DC-based property owner and developer JBG SMITH has announced the construction of two high-rise residential apartments Arlington County, Northern Virginia, the US.

Set for construction at 1900 Crystal Drive in Arlington, the residential towers development will see the construction of 808 multifamily rental units, which include around 40,000ft2 of street-level retail covering two new mixed-use buildings.

The southern tower, which is the taller at 27-storeys, will comprise 471 apartments, while the shorter 26-storey northern tower will have 337 apartments.

JBG SMITH successfully bid for the project and got a guaranteed maximum price contract, which comes to more than 7.5% below pre-pandemic pricing.

Designed by the partnership of architect COOKFOX and Torti Gallas + Partners, the nearly 300 feet tall buildings will be a prominent addition to the National Landing skyline in Arlington. The residents will not only have the benefit of green spaces and a private rooftop, but also a new pedestrian-friendly retail street, which will serve as a connection between 18th and 20th Streets.

Other community-oriented improvements undertaken by JBG SMITH for the neighbourhood include enhanced streetscapes, public bike facilities, and a grand staircase that connects to public open space.
