Indian construction firm J Kumar Infraprojects has secured a contract worth $179.8m (Rs13.08bn) for the Mumbai Metro Rail project in Maharashtra.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded the contract for the remaining civil work of 12.8km long elevated section of Mumbai Metro’s Line-2B.

The scope of work under the contract involves the design and construction of ten elevated stations and an elevated viaduct.

The stations will be built at ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indra Nagar, Nanawati Hospital, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, National College, Bandra, Income Tax Office & ILFS.

In 2017, Simplex Infrastructure secured the contract for this elevated section but was terminated due to poor progress of work in January last year.

The Letter of Acceptance (LOA) awarded by the MMRDA excludes architectural finishes and pre-engineered steel roof structure of stations.

Line-2B of the metro project involves construction of 20 stations from D.N. Nagar to Mandale as well as a 23.64 km long elevated corridor.

This provides interconnectivity between the existing Eastern Express Highway, Central Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Mono Rail and Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) that is under construction, Metro Line 4 (Wadala to Kasarvadavali) & Metro Line 3 (Colaba to SEEPZ).

The stations which will be constructed on this route include Nanavati Hospital, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, MMRDA Office, Bandra, ILFS, MTNL Metro, ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indira Nagar, National College, Income Tax office, EEH, Chembur, Diamond Garden, SG Barve Marg, Kurla Terminal, Kurla (E), Shivaji Chowk, BSNL, Mankhurd and Mandale.
