Gangavaram Port, the deepest port in India, is building its first container terminal.

This container terminal is expected to boost the growth of cargo business in the hinterland of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring industrial hubs.

The terminal will also boost efficiency, cut down turnaround time besides cost of logistics and enable a seamless supply chain for the industry.

With this terminal, the port will be able to provide benefits to industries including metal and minerals, seafood, agriculture, chemical, pharma among others, reported The New Indian Express.

Three STS cranes and nine E-RTGs have already come at the port.

Following the arrival of equipment, the project has picked pace and is likely to be commissioned by Q2 of the present fiscal year.

Gangavaram Port spokesperson said, “Our new container terminal will help us diversify into container cargo business as part of our strategic roadmap to achieve better cargo handling capacities in India. The terminal will also help us achieve an optimal cargo mix to steadily increase the share of container cargo business in our portfolio.”

The terminal will be operational in fiscal year 2023, reported The Hindu.

This terminal will help Gangavaram Port Limited’s (GPL) plans to boost its diversified product portfolio and enhance its share of handling cargo.

GPL is the special purpose vehicle operating the port.
