HS2 has shortlisted the bidding companies to become the Phase 2a design and delivery partner (DDP) for the next phase of UK’s high speed rail network.

The new 57.93km-long section will run from the West Midlands to Crewe.

The shortlisted bidders include AMS JV – Atkins / Mace Consult / SYSTRA, Jacobs UK and 2 Connect JV – AECOM Limited / Costain Integrated Services.

The successful bidder for the £500m contract will work on the design and delivery of the new segment in collaboration with HS2.

The Phase 2a also includes 17 viaducts, two tunnels, 65 bridges, as well as track along the railway route.
It is also expected to provide opportunities for employment and businesses.

HS2 Procurement and Supply Chain director Andrew Cubitt said: “The Phase 2a section of HS2 is a major investment in the region’s future low carbon transport infrastructure, that will provide an essential link between the West Midlands and northern England.

“This latest procurement will facilitate the benefits HS2 is set to bring to the region, before any trains have even started running, helping the UK to build back better from the pandemic.”

Recently, HS2’s main works civils contractor, Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture (SCS JV) awarded a contract to STRABAG for the production of concrete segments for London tunnels section of HS2.
