Hill International has been awarded a contract to provide project management services for the New Administrative Capital City and 6th of October City Monorail project, the two lines of the $4bn Cairo Monorail Project in Egypt.

Under the contract, Hill International will provide project management, design review, and implementation supervision services for the monorail project.

The two lines are expected to transport approximately 45,000 passengers per hour at peak.

Hill International CEO Raouf Ghali said: “This is an exciting project for all involved, and represents the continuing strength of the North African market in general and Egypt in particular.

“With demographic factors, astute planning, and innovation providing an engine for growth in Egypt, we expect the country will set a global standard in executing ambitious infrastructure projects and programs like the Cairo Monorail for many years to come.”

Being developed by Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels, the monorail project will include a 56.5km line connecting the New Administrative City with East Cairo and a second 42km line connecting 6th of October City with Giza.

Cairo Monorail’s New Administrative Capital line will comprise 21 stations whereas the 6th of October City line will feature 12 stations.

Hill International senior vice-president and Africa managing director Waleed Abdel-Fattah said: “Our team will bring the best practices and lessons learned from our assignments to make certain these new lines achieve the Authority’s goals for the project and offer a fast, safe, and clean transit solution for residents.”

The project will be executed on design-build-operate-and-maintain (DBOM) basis. It will feature both elevated and at-grade locations, and associated works including maintenance facilities, depots, and an operations control centre.

Additionally, the monorail will intersect with the Cairo Metro’s Line 3 and Cairo’s High-Speed Rail network.
