Indian infrastructure company Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), in a joint venture with Vensar Constructions Company (VCCL), has secured INR2.36bn ($31.8m) orders in two separate contracts from the Northeast Frontier Railway.

The contract involves the construction of Single Line BG Tunnels Lot 14A and Lot 15A on a 51.38km long Bairabi-Sairang New BG Rail line in the Indian state of Manipur.

HCC holds a 55% (INR1.3bn ($17.56m)) share in the joint venture.

The work on the Lot 14 A includes the construction of single line BG Tunnel 14A (~160 M), BG two-line Tunnel 12A (~160 M) and balance work of Tunnel 11C (~120 M), Tunnel 11A (Lining for ~680 M) Tunnel 11B (~445 M), Tunnel 6B (Lining for ~160 M).

It also involves all other ancillary works between Hortoki and Mualkhang stations.

On the Lot 15A, the contract will see the construction of Single Line BG Tunnels 15A (~182 M), 15B (~200 M) and 15C (~190 M), balance work of bridge 79.

It also includes the construction of minor bridges 78A, 83, 84, 86, 87 and embankment or sub-bank work for 1.8km from Hortoki to Mualkhang stations in Mizoram.

The Bairabi-Sairang New BG Rail line is claimed to be one of the major railway projects which are being implemented by Indian Railways to improve its network across the country’s north-eastern region.

The railway line will connect Mizoram to the Indian Railways network up to Bairabi railway station, which is said to be the gateway to the state.

It involves the construction of 32 underground tunnels, 55 major bridges, 87 minor bridges, 16 cut and cover tunnels, five Road Under Bridges (RUB), and five Road Over Bridges (ROB).

HCC said that the line covers four railway stations including Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang railway stations.
