British property development and investment firm Hammerson has received planning approval from Leeds City Council for the construction of a new 205-bed hotel in Leeds city centre, UK.
The new hotel forms part of the company’s plan for a new mixed-use development project under Hammerson’s City Quarters concept.
The concept is expected to transform the current sites in the city into a new neighbourhood filled with homes, workspace, hotel rooms and public realm.
Hammerson said that it is currently in discussions with an international hotel brand and is seeking to bring a new boutique hotel to Leeds for visitors and professional travellers.
The announcement of the new hotel follows a consent received last month for a 7.5-acre mixed-use Martineau Galleries masterplan in Birmingham City Centre.
The masterplan will transform a currently underutilised site in the city centre from pure retail into new neighbourhoods.

By GlobalDataThe plan includes 1,300 new homes for about 2,400 people who are predicted to spend in the region of £23m annually on local goods and activities.
In December last year, Hammerson has also secured planning approval for the development of 107 new apartments at Dundrum Town Centre in South County Dublin, Ireland.
The project will comprise one studio, 50 one-bedroom and 56 two-bedroom apartments which will be managed on a long-term rental basis.
The site will also include co-working space at ground floor level, a gym, a cinema room, and a lounge and terrace at the upper levels.
Hammerson development and project management UK Director Robin Dobson said: “Delivering on our City Quarters concept is a key priority for Hammerson and this is our third planning consent in the last twelve months.
“Not only does this mark an important step in our wider plans to create a thriving new cultural quarter in Leeds City Centre, it also demonstrates progress in our wider strategy to support our existing assets by moving beyond pure retail.”
