The ground-breaking ceremony for the civil construction of Singapore Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Integrated Train Testing Centre (ITTC) was presided by Minister for Transport Ong Ye Kung.

The new ITTC, which is expected to be completed by end of 2024, will help conduct the testing and commissioning of existing and new trains and railway systems on a site of approximately 50 acres.

The exclusive facility can help carry out round-the-clock train testing works away from the mainline, without impeding other maintenance activities during limited engineering hours. In addition, it will also curb the practice of Early Closure and Late Opening (ECLO), helping minimise inconvenience to commuters.

The ITTC will include a one-stop workshop for mid-life testing and upgrading of trains before deploying them on the mainline. Apart from this, it will also house three different tracks in the form of a looped track with an uphill gradient, a looped ‘S-shaped’ track, and a straight high-speed track for specific safety-critical tests.

Sheltered linkways connecting to various buildings and bicyle parking facilities will be built within the compound for seamless connectivity.

Full and final construction of ITTC is expected to be finished in two phases.

Construction of the high-speed test track will be in the first phase and will see completion in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The remaining two test tracks will be completed in the second phase along with the construction of the Administration Building, Operations Control Centre Building and workshops, following which ITTC will be fully operational by the end of 2024.
